ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is said to have been killed in a raid conducted by the US military, according to a senior US defense official and a source with knowledge, says media reports.
CNN stated that the raid was conducted in northwest Syria on Saturday and that it is believed Baghdadi detonated a suicide vest during the raid. However, a DNA confirmation is pending while biometric testing is being carried out.
While is believed that Badhdadi, who took over the group in 2010 was in hiding for the past five years, his first video since 2014 emerged in April this year where he urged to continue carrying out ISIS activities.
America has been trying to locate Baghdadi for years and it was revealed by America that he was injured during an air strike attack organized by the US.
As word spreads fast about the death of the terror group leader, it was earlier announced by the White House that a special announcement is scheduled at 09:00 today by the US president Donald Trump. Further details regarding the announcement are pending.
