Prominent lawyer Hussain Shameem has been appointed as the new Prosecutor General (PG) of the Maldives.
The appointment took place in a ceremony which took place on Sunday, at the President’s Office. The letter of appointment was presented to Shameem by the President of Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The position of PG became vacant upon the resignation of the former PG, Aishath Bisham who was due to be removed from office by the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament.
The name of the former deputy PG was passed by the Parliament with a total of 75 votes.
