Government offices and schools to remain closed for another week

The President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided on keeping all government offices, schools, colleges and universities closed for another week.

The President’s Office announced that this decision has been made as per the recommendations of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the National Emergency Operations Centre, which states that there is still reason to believe that the threat of spreading Covid-19 in the country and the possibility of increasing the number of positive cases in the country still presists.

However, the President’s Office advised all offices to ensure that staff are able to work from home to attend to necessary tasks and should the need to open offices to provide a certain service or complete certain tasks, to do it with as minimum employees as required. The President has also decided that all services of the government which can be provided online shall be done so.

The President’s Office also conveyed the message of the President to the public which is to pay special attention in staying at home, as one of the most important steps in controlling Covid-19 from spreading is social distancing and staying at home as much as possible.
