Male’, Maldives – A total of 488 individuals have been granted an income support allowance by the government, revealed the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC).

Speaking in a press conference last night, NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated that 488 individuals have been granted the support allowance, which amounts to MVR 1,967,000.

According to the government, the income support allowance will be granted under special guidelines and will only be paid for the months of April, May and June.

The government guidelines state that this allowance will be given to those whose employment was affected from 1st March onwards.

The Economic Ministry of the Maldives advised anyone who falls under this category to register in the Job Center of the ministry. So far, more than 2000 have registered claiming the support allowance.

Those who fit into the category set out by the ministry would receive MVR 5000 per month for the said three months. These include those who have lost employment or have gotten a pay cut.

The ministry explained that those whose salaries got reduced would only receive the the allowance should the new salary be lower than MVR 5000. Granted this, only the difference would be paid to such individuals. This also includes those who receive additional income.
