Malé, Maldives — A senior official of the Maldives National University (MNU) is confirmed to be tested positive for the virus Covid-19.
The Vice-Chancellor or MNU, Dr. Mohamed Shareef confirmed the news informing that the MNU senior official tested positive for the virus on Wednesday is from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies.
“I am informed that the staff came to the office last week. No contact was made with anyone. The staff informed me later on that some symptoms of COVID-19 were being identified. The staffer then informed the HPA and was awaiting tests.” Said Dr. Shareef.
Although only the administrative staffs will be coming to work in the university presently as it is temporarily closed, Dr. Shareef disclosed thag the locations that are used frequently in the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies has been disinfected following the confirmed case.
“It does not seem that the staff was infected from within the university, based on the phone conversation we had. However, we can only be sure when the contact tracing is completed. It seems that the staff was infected in another way, perhaps public transport or a family member.” Said Dr. Shareef.
