Maldives is awarded as the ‘Dream Dive Destination’ for the 12th time in a row.

On Wednesday, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) announced to the nation that Maldives has been crowned as the ‘Dream Dive Destination’ by the ‘Dive and Travel Awards’ show hosted by the Marine Diving Fair 2020.

Maldives contiues to maintain a stronghold as the premier destination for diving enthusiasts worldwide, after the country is awarded as the ‘Dream Dive Destination’ for the 12th consecutive year.

“The Marine Diving Fair has been a great platform to strengthen the market presence of Maldives in Japan and Southeast Asia region”, said MMPRC.

Based on the data collected until February 2020, the Japanese market has been ranked 10th on tourist arrivals to Maldives, according to the statistics revealed by MMPRC.

4,052 Japanese tourists were recorded to have arrived by the end of February 2020. This highlights a growth of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year. Last year alone, there was a record of 44,251 tourists arrivals from Japan, reporting a 4.6 percent in growth from 2018.

MMPRC has continued to invest in multiple marketing activities in the Japanese market and other global markets as well. They have focused mainly on digital advertising opportunities, such as ‘Rediscover Maldives campaign’.

However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, similar to numerous other countries in the world, Maldives had also closed its air and sea borders to tourist arrivals on March 27 due to the rise in Covid-19 cases until July 15.
