Despite fire damages, efforts underway to continue services on Sunday: SBI

Malé, Maldives — State Bank of India (SBI) announced on Saturday that despite the fire damages on the building, efforts are underway to continue their services on Sunday.

Friday night’s inferno that erupted in Henveiru Ward’s Tiolo cafe’ had spread to the adjacent, where a 10-storey, Gadhage Mohamed Fulhu Building, which consists of five floors used for SBI’s operations.

Reports say that although most of the damages were caused to the penthouse during the fire, lower floors were also affected to varying degrees.

SBI revealed in a statement the bank was assessingthe fire damages caused to the building in collaboration with the relevant authorities.

While apologizing the customers for any inconvenience, the bank revealed that they are trying to resume services on Sunday.

Friday night’s fire continued to completely destroyed the two-storey building for two hours before Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s firefighters brought the fire under control.

Fortunatly, no injuries were reported, nor any fatalities. The residents of that area were immediately evacuated and all the floors in Gadhage Mohamed Fulhu Building were vacant at the time of fire.
