Thinadhoo, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed Gdh. Thinadhoo on monitoring, on Saturday, following an individual testing positive for Covid-19 in the island.
According to reports from local media, the individual who tested positive for the coronavirus is a crew member of a vessel which travels between Male’ and the island.
The notice by HPA read that the island was placed under monitoring after an individual in the island tested positive for Covid-19, due to which the Agency was required to look into certain aspects of the matter. With this, no one is allowed to enter or leave the premises of the island until further notice from HPA.
In most cases of Covid-19 out of the capital, the cases have been of persons in home quarantine following travel to an area with active community spread of the virus. Hence an island is often put under monitoring status only if the agency has information that the quarantine protocols were breached.
However, in this case, it is unknown whether the individual was placed in home quarantine or not. Further information would be made available once HPA concludes contact tracing efforts with regards to the case.
At present, Maldives is recording cases exceeding 100 on the daily, with the total number of infected patients being above 7,500.
