Covid-19: Additional 89 confirmed cases and 111 recoveries

Malé, Maldives — HPA has confirmed additional 89 positive cases and 111 recoveries in Maldives over the past 24 hours.

HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of August 29, and 6pm of August 30, additional 89 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:

  • 63 Maldivians
  • 20 Bangladeshis
  • 05 Indians
  • 01 Sri Lankan

Among the confirmed 89 cases, 88 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 0q was from an atoll of Maldives.

With these 89 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 7,667 confirmed Covid-19 cases, increased by 2,000 cases within just 15 days. Currently among these cases, there are 2,597 active cases present in the Maldives.

Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases.

Infact, the health authorities has warned of a wide community spread relating to the increase of the number of cases that are not linked to the existing clusters.

Previously the majority of the confirmed cases were of foreign nationals. However, since the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, it has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases for Maldivian nationals having the majority of the cases as well.

While 89 people tested positive for the virus today, 111 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 111 recoveries, recovered cases have surpassed 5,000 and reached a total of 5,036 in Maldives. The recovery rate of Maldives has decreased from 86% to 65% since the lock-down easement.

Up to date, 28 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 22 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.

Currently there are 1,486 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 181 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
