Male’, Maldives – Sri Lankan Airlines will resume flights to Maldives as soon as the Sri Lankan borders open, said MP of Feydhoo constituency, Mohamed Nihad on Thursday.

This comes as the General Sales Agent of Sri Lankan, Ace Aviation has said that there is no guarantee that the airline would resume flights to Addu, even if borders resume since it temporarily ceased operations due to Covid-19.

The challenged faced by the airlines with regards to Addu sector were previously shared with the Parliament Members of the region as well.

Nihad’s comment regarding the flight operations were following an individual’s questions on Twitter, as no updates were provided on the matter since the meeting with the airline representatives and MPs. To this, Nihad replied,

“We will remain working on the matter, until it is successful. We will work closely with Sri Lankan and the government to find a solution.”

The biggest challenge highlighted by Sri Lankan, in operating flights to Addu was the lack of passengers available from the sector, something which they say would be resolved with domestic flights between Addu and Huvadhoo atoll.
