Nasheed in home quarantine after returning from UK

Malé, Maldives — The Parliament Speaker and former President, Mohamed Nasheed goes into home quarantine after returning from the United Kingdom.

According to the Communication Director at the People’s Majlis, after a personal trip to the UK, Nasheed had returned to Maldives on Tuesday. He has ever since been in home quarantine as required by health authorities.

The health authorities require anyone who return from abroad to undergo a 14-day home quarantine period as a protective measure to avoid a community spread in the country. Those who are in home quarantine will only be released if they test negative for the Covid-19 test done at the end of the 14-day quarantine period.

Although those who violate the quarantine orders are fined, any Individual in home quarantine who requires to go out on urgent business are given a special permit to do so.

The parliament speaker went on an unofficial trip to the United Kingdom on August 28, where he began his work as the Thematic Ambassador for the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF).

During his trip to UK, Nasheed had met with CVF’s current chair, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen, and senior officials of the forum including members of the Bangladeshi Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

During the Forum, the former president was widely praised by the CVF’s Chair for his contributions to the environment field.
