Male’, Maldives – On the occasion of International Day for Universal Access to Information, the Attorney General of Maldives Ibrahim Riffath said that information is the ultimate weapon of the modern day.
He said so in a tweet he sent out on Monday, which read that “In the era of Information Technology, information is the ultimate asset and weapon. The right to information is the foundation of an accountable government. This freedom is to be used for the benefit of the people. For the benefit of all. Warm greetings of the International Day for Universal Access to Information.”
On this day, the Attorney General’s office also launched its new website, with was inaugurated by the former Attorney General and current Vice President of the Bar Council, Abdullah Muizzu. This website will allow access to information pertaining to the services provided by the office as well as general legal information.
The Right to Information Act of Maldives was passed by the Parliament at the 22nd sitting of its third session, on 29th December 2013, and ratified on 12th January, 2014, by former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom.
