5 people arrested trying to smuggle drugs in their body

Male’, Maldives – Five people have been arrested by Maldives Customs Service while trying to smuggle drugs in to Maldives by ingesting last month.

Customs told that out of the five people, four of them are Pakistan males and the other person is a Kenyan female. Out of them the Pakistani men, 22, 30, 34 and 44 year old’s came to Maldives on September 11 and they tried to smuggle 88 packets of heroin in their bodies. These weighed 791 grams and as per customs these would have a street value of MVR 632,800.

The Kenyan female who was arrested is a 27 year old who came to Maldives on September 29 and tried to smuggle 53 packets of heroin in her body. Customs informed that they have handed over the people and the drugs to Maldives Police Service.

This news comes following major drug busts around the Maldives with a major drug bust in Addu City with a total of 98.6 kilograms being confiscated and 14 people arrested.

Both the Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla and Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed have said that they would push on with the drug operations in the future and that this government would not give political protection to such people.
