Malé, Maldives — The government of Maldives has revealed that a total of MVR 106 million has been distributed as income support allowance, by October 15th.
On Monday, the Ministry of Finance revealed the statistics of income support distributed to the individuals and households that were affected due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It revealed that by October 15, the government distributed a total of MVR 106 Million to 9,989 individuals. Although a total of 25,030 individuals had applied for the income support allowances, income support was only given to the individuals that had met the requirements set by the government.
Since May 20 of this year, the government of Maldives has been giving out income support allowance under the government’s economic relief package to individuals who are not able to provide for themselves and their families, due to the negative impact on their incomes.
Such individuals who are eligible to recieve the income support include the employees who have been terminated, put on no-pay leave or suspended from their jobs as well. The individuals who are on probation and temporary positions also meet the requirements needed to recieve allowance. All of these people are required to be between the age 18 and 65 years.
Those individuals who are in need of income support for the coming month are instructed to send in their applications before the end of October. They are also required to inform about their situation of employment if it has been affected due to the Covid-19. Any Individual who meets the required conditions needed to recieve the allowances are also required to sign up for an eFaas account.
While the government had initially decided to give an allowance of MVR 5,000 for a six months, they have extend the date till the end of this year.
