Malé, Maldives — HPA announces additional 42 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 99 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of October 21th, and 6pm of October 22nd, additional 42 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:

  • 27 Maldivians
  • 15 Foreigners

37 of the confirmed 42 cases were recorded from the greater Malé area and the remaining 05 were from the atolls of Maldives

With these cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 11,358 confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, currently among these cases, there are only 931 active cases present in the Maldives.

Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases. While the majority of the confirmed cases were initially of foreign nationals, the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, resulted in having a large proportion of Maldivian nationals confirming positive for the virus.

However, the number of cases is now decreasing, as the peak appears to have tipped for the better. In addition to this, the number of recoveries in Maldives has also increased by a great extent.

The islands and resorts that have active cases outside of the Malé city according to HPA are:

While 42 people tested positive for the virus today, 99 people have also completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 99 recoveries, the total recoveries has now reached 10,383. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 90% over the past month.
