Male’, Maldives – Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam has said that the cable car project between Kaashidhoo island and Gaafaru island proposed by Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir is impossible to do and an insane idea.

Minister Aslam said that anyone in their sane state of mind would know that this was not a feasible project even though politicians speak about such projects and that while he was in the position as minister, he would not do it.

MP Jabir asked the minister why his planned projects were not being included in the governments developmental plans even though he had send in the proposals. MP Jaabir also asked about the airport for Kaashidhoo island which he had proposed with the drawings to the government.

“I cannot fathom the feasibility of travelling by cable car from Kaashidhoo to anywhere while being in a sane state of mind. Maldivian people need to know that no matter how loud people talk about such projects, it is impossible to carry out. I don’t believe it’s doable. And not something which should be even done” Minister Aslam told.

In retaliation to the Ministers answer to his questions, MP Jabir said that people travel from London to Paris through a tunnel and not to mislead facts on feasibility of projects. Minister Aslam answered to the MP saying that Kaashidhoo island was not Paris and that this project was not feasible at any cost.

The cable car from Kaashidhoo island to Gaafaru island was a pledge of MP Jabir when he was campaigning for the parliament seat for the constituency which includes both the islands. Mp Jabir had brought engineers from Sintecnica engineering company from Italy to conduct a feasibility study for the project in November 2019
