MVR 121 Million paid in income support

Male’, Maldives – Ministry of Finance has revealed that they have paid out MVR 121 Million to individuals that have had their jobs affected by COVID-19.

Reports released by The Ministry of Finance show that as at November 5th, 10,821 individuals have received a total of MVR 121 Million in financial aid. It has been revealed that over 77,000 applications have been received by the The Ministry of Economic Development.

Applications started to be accepted to the Income Support Allowance Phase II in July, August and September, with successful applicants getting MVR 5000 . The Maldivian Government’s Income Support Allowance is to be given to persons who have had their income negatively impacted by COVID starting from December 2019.

In June, the World Bank approved financial assistance of USD 12.8 million to support the government’s Income Support scheme. The assistance comprises a USD 6.4 million grant and a USD 6.4 million credit from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessional credit window for developing countries.
