Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) announces additional 30 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 40 recoveries over the past 24 hours.
HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of November 21 and 6pm of November 22, additional 30 people were confirmed positive for the virus in Maldives. They are:
- 22 Maldivians
- 08 Foreigners
27 of the confirmed 30 cases were recorded from the greater Malé area and the remaining 03 were from the resorts and atolls of Maldives.
There are currently 31 resorts in Maldives with active cases including 54 tourists and 155 staffs. The islands that have active cases outside of the Malé city according to HPA are:
- Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi: 01 case
- Hdh. Neykurendhoo: 01 case
- Hdh. Kumundhoo: 01 case
- Sh. Lhaimagu: 01 case
- Sh. Feydhoo: 01 case
- R. Inguraidoo: 01 case
- B. Goidhoo: 01 case
- B. Kendhoo: 01 case
- K. Huraa: 01 case
- K. Maafushi: 01 cases
- AA. Ukulhas: 01 case
- GA. Nilandhoo: 01 case
- Gdh. Nadella: 01 case
With these 30 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 12,608 confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, currently among these cases, there are only 956 active cases present in the Maldives.
Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed immensely in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases. While the majority of the confirmed cases were initially of foreign nationals, the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, resulted in having a large proportion of Maldivian nationals confirming positive for the virus.
However, the number of cases is now decreasing, as the peak appears to have tipped for the better. In addition to this, the number of recoveries in Maldives has also increased by a great extent.
While 30 people tested positive for the virus today, 40 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 40 recoveries, the total recoveries has now reached 11,599. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 92% over the past months.
Up to date, 46 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 39 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national. Currently there are 344 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 86 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus.
