Male’, Maldives – The Republic of Maldives has formally established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Eswatini in a join communique yesterday, 15th December.
The Joint Communiqué formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of Maldives by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Thilmeeza Hussain, and on behalf of the Government of Eswatini by Melusi Martin Masuku, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Eswatini to the United Nations.
The documents were signed at a ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations in New York. The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries paves the way for the two countries to cooperate further in the international arena in areas of mutual interest.
Cultivating meaningful partnerships with countries that respects and values the friendship of Maldives remains a key priority of the foreign policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Following the establishment of diplomatic relations with Eswatini, the Maldives currently maintains diplomatic relations with 175 countries.
Eswatini is a landlocked country situated in Southern Africa, bordering Mozambique and South Africa, with a population of approximately 1.1 million.
