Male’, Maldives – MP of Hulhudhoo Constituency Ilyas Labeeb has said that Former President and Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed will not stop his efforts in working against extremists working in the name of religion.
MP Ilyas made the statements following several tweets from Dr.Mohamed Iyaz, a renowned scholar in Maldives, criticizing Speaker Nasheed for sending out Christmas greetings to all those who celebrate it. Some of his tweets comprehend the meaning that Nasheed is not a true muslim and that he is an enemy of the religion.
Dr.Iyaz said that participating in the happiness and sorrow of non-muslims and greeting them on a occasion which is considered as Shirk cannot be compared and said that to believe that Allah is the sole god is what Muslims should do and that this must not be compromised.
Ilyas said that Nasheed is someone who is headstrong in islam alongside several other MDP members who are tweeting in Nasheed’s defense. Ilyas also noted that scholars such as Iyaz must not assume that Nasheed will stop his efforts in working against extremists.
Nasheed’s tweet conveying greetings on the occasion of Christmas has attracted the attention of many individuals including several renowned scholars such as Iyaz. While many of them have criticised Nasheed saying that it is against Islam, Nasheed has not yet said anything regarding the issue.
