Male’, Maldives – Various resorts across Maldives have paid a remarkably high service charge to their employees in January 2021.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi gave out USD 3,340 (MVR 51,502), the largest amount in service charge ever paid out by a resort in the Maldives.

Such a high amount was possible as the period for service charge includes the tourist surge during the December holidays, when numerous yachts and jets came to Maldives with very wealthy tourists.

Some resorts have had their workforce greatly reduced, which has also contributed to the high service charge.

This is great news for staff working in the recovering tourism sector in the Maldives.

Other 5 star luxury resorts that have given out large service charges include One&Only Reethi Rah with USD 3,007 (MVR 46,367) and Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas with USD2,907.43 (MVR 32,342).
