Former Pres. Yameen’s hearing over MMPRC case scheduled for tomorrow

Male’, Maldives – The hearing of Former President Abdullah Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom over the lease of R. Fuggiri island in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) case has been scheduled at the Criminal Court for tomorrow.

The preliminary hearings of the charges of accepting bribery and of money laundering raised against Former President Yameen are to take place at the Criminal Court at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon.

The charges raised against the Former President were announced at the latest hearing of the issue and Former President Yameen was questioned whether all the charges raised against him were clear. The judge noted that President Yameen would be presented the opportunity to respond to the charge in the following hearing.

The Prosecutor General accused the Former President of accepting bribes worth MVR 117,000 during the lease of R. Fuggiri for the development of a tourist resort. Along with the Former President, Ahmed Krik Rilhaa of MA.Kurikeelahiya, Male’, is also accused of being involved in the embezzlement of money in the case.

In addition to this, Sun Constructions and Engineering Private Limited and Sun Investment Private Limited are also accused of money laundering in the case. While President Yameen is accused of accepting bribery and money laundering, Ahmed Krik Rilhaa is being accused of being a medium during the transfer of bribery and of money laundering.
