Male’, Maldives – Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry confirms that over 92,000 tourists visited Maldives in January 2021.
While tourist arrivals to Maldives have picked up in the months since the country reopened its borders, the 92,103 arrivals in January 2021 is still significantly lower compared to the 173,874 tourist arrivals recorded in January 2020.
Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry shows Maldives received an average of 2,971 tourist visitors per day in January. The highest single-day spike in tourist arrivals so far this year was recorded on Sunday, January 31, with 4,218 arrivals. Emirates Airline was also identified as the airline carrying the most number of tourists to Maldives this holiday season.
The top source market for tourist arrivals in January was Russia, with 20,973 arrivals. India followed close behind with 19,135 arrivals. Maldives also saw 7,210 tourist arrivals from Ukraine, 4,434 from Kazakhstan, and 3,921 from Romania. Records released by Tourism Ministry show tourists stayed an average of 9.2 nights in Maldives during their visits.
Maldives currently has 144 resorts/marinas, 11 hotels, 324 guesthouses, and 134 liveaboard vessels in operation. The island destination is open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 96 hours before departure from their original destination. Tourists are issued 30-day visa upon arrival.
