Police announce details of COVID-19 safety measures

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has stated that gyms in the Maldives will not be closed and that water and gas delivery services are to be provided until 23:00 despite the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Safety measures are in place in the capital Male’ City due to the increase in cases. The measures include curfew across the capital from 23:00 to 4:30 as a result of which vehicles are banned rom the streets from 20:30 to 4:30.

In a press conference of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) and Police, Superintendent of Police Hussain Sameer said that necessary services such as water and gas delivery services would be provided during the vehicle ban hours. He added that every company will have two vehicles to provide services.

The Superintendent added that taxi services will also be provided during these hours and that every taxi center will have 10 permits. Public transport services will continue until 22:30. Uniformed employees and duty workers will be permitted to attend work or return home after presenting their cards. Individuals assisting a patient of a hospital will also be permitted by presenting the hospital pass.

A fine is to be imposed on any violations without any prior warnings. Superintendent Sameer added that apart from group exercises, solo exercising will be permitted at gyms. The Waste Management Corporation also announced today that households in the capital are to leave garbage outside the door of the house for collection from 20:30 to 21:30.
