Maldives Parliament to launch probe into alleged Taliban ties of Anti-terrorism Board and Death Commission members

Malé, Maldives – The Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has ordered for investigations to be launched regarding Taliban ties of State Minister of the Home Ministry Ali Nazeer, and Misbah Abbas, a member of the Commission on Deaths and Disappearances put together by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Speaker Nasheed ordered for the investigation to be launched following a request from MP of Naifaru Constituency at today’s parliament sitting calling out to confirm whether Ali Nazeer and Misbah Abbas have undergone Taliban training and verify their history.

Ali Nazeer is also a member of the anti-terrorism board.

He added that the background check of Misbah and Nazeer and must be done to verify their integrity.

Speaking regarding the comments from MP of Naifaru Constituency, Speaker Nasheed said that it was valuable information regarding the two members of the Commission and that the parliament needs to further investigate these ties. He ordered for the Secretary General to inform relevant authorities of the state to further investigate the matter.
