Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Sri Lanka Cable (MSC) is now ready for service after 12 months since the project was first launched.
The consortium cable is a joint project between Dialog Axiata, Ooredoo and Dhiraagu, was delivered in partnership with HMN Tech. The 840km international subsea system delivers high-speed, low latency connectivity between Hulhumale in the Republic of Maldives and Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka and the project was completed in a record twelve-month timeframe.
The system was deployed as part of a consortium comprised of Dhiraagu, Ooredoo Maldives and Dialog AXIATA, to enable the transmission of international traffic and to enhance the telecoms infrastructure in the region. Once interconnected to domestic networks, the increased capacity on MSC will strengthen the digital ecosystem within the country and support the growing digital transformation needs of its people and businesses.
The MSC system also uses HMN Tech’s advanced submarine optical amplifiers to provide high output power, reducing span length to facilitate a cost-effective solution. The project was delivered through a collaboration between HMN Tech’s delivery team and the consortium comprised of Ooredoo, Dhiraagu and Dialog Axiata oversaw the rapid system design and implementation of the system, during a period of challenging logistics and restrictions due to Covid-19 pandemic.
