96,882 tourist arrivals recorded in February 2021

Malé, Maldives – Tourism Ministry has revealed that 96,882 tourist arrivals to the Maldives have been recorded in February, 2021.

The total number of tourists for 2021, up until February stood at 188,984. The single day of most tourist arrivals was on February 21, 2021 which saw 5,268 tourists beating the previous record of 4,800 which was seen on February 15, 2021. 

The top market for tourism arrivals have been identified as India with nearly 44,038 tourist arrivals. Russia follows closely with 40,697 tourist arrivals while Ukraine is the country with the third highest tourist arrivals with 12,549 tourist. In addition, Kazakhstan has also been noted as a top source with 8,166 tourist arrivals as well as Germany with 7,386 tourist arrivals.

Romania, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and Czech Republic are also among top 10 source markets for tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year.

As the demand increases, Maldives is also working on increasing the capacity available for tourists. Currently, there are a total of 44,859 beds available from 147 resorts, 370 hotels and guest houses, as well as 140 safari vessels. Currently, there are only few restrictions for visitors entering the country, with just the requirement to produce a negative PCR test administered 96 hours prior to departure.
