Malé, Maldives – President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assigned Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail as the acting Minister of Communication, Science and Technology.
Minister Fayyaz’s appointment comes after the former Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Maleeh Jamal was voted out from the job after a no-confidence vote taken by parliament earlier today.
Maleeh was voted out of the government with 59 votes after the matter was submitted to the Parliament with 14 member votes initially, which Maleeh described as a deliberate attempt to disgrace his name with lies, and that the regulations which are claimed to have not been formulated have now been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office.
Maleeh’s capability as the Communications and Technology Minister was questioned by many members of the public on multiple occasions, specially due to the issues pertaining to the internet services and prices of internet in the Maldives.
Economic Minister of Maldives, Fayyaz Ismail had stated on November 15, 2020 that they expect the pricing of telecom services to get cheaper as the government has decided give another company the license to provide telecom services in Maldives.
Minister Fayyaz also stated on that day that a new telecom company enters the market, and as the competition among the companies increases, it is expected that the telecom pricing will decrease to a good price over the years.
