Not how things would go in coalition government, we trust Maleeh: Riyaz

Male’, Maldives — The Member of Constituency of Thimarafushi, Abdullah Riyaz has stated that the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal would not be treated this way in a coalition government and they they have complete trust in Minister Maleeh.

The statement from Riyaz comes during the debate regarding the no confidence motion submitted at the Parliament against the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.

While speaking at the parliament today, Riyaz stated that Minister Maleeh is a capable educated man and that he is not being removed from his position for not doing any work. Riyaz stated that so far, the incumbent government has shared no information with anyone including the JPD Leadership saying that Minister Maleeh is not fulfilling his responsibilities.

While stating that the Parliament is a place to carry out political acts, Riyaz stated that the no confidence motion against Maleeh is also related to a political act and not because he wasn’t fulfilling his responsibilities. Riyaz stated that this is not an act of the government, but of the parliament members.

This is not how things would work in a coalition government. I believe that the President and the leaders of the party must discuss first if there is an issue.

Riyaz stated that the Jumhoori party as full trust in Minister Maleeh and that he is a capable man.

The parliament hearing regarding the no confidence motion ended minutes ago with the Parliament of Maldives voting to remove Minister Maleeh from his office with a total of 59 votes.
