Malé, Maldives – The Elections Commission of Maldives has decided that ballot boxes for the upcoming Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, are to be stationed in 121 resorts.
The Elections Commission President Ahmed Shareef said that ballot boxes for the election would be placed in all the resorts that request for them, as the Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidelines do not allow for employees to travel to neighbouring islands.
Shareef added that ballot boxes were previously placed in resorts when the registered voters from the resort reaches a certain number. However, voting is made available in all resorts that request for them without a base line. The resorts are expected to determine officials from amongst their employees.
The local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections are scheduled to be held on April 10. Candidates taking part in the election have now started their campaigns as well.
