Malé, Maldives – FENAKA – the biggest utilities company in Maldives has said that the corruption allegations against the management of the company are planned attempts to defame the company and its management.
FENAKA released a statement after Anti Corruption Commission of the Maldives sent a letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih brining the corruption allegations against the company to the presidents attention.
In the statement, FENAKA stated that the accusation are baseless and being made out of jealousy in an attempt to hinder the progress and achievements which the company has been getting with the current management. It also stated that the current management which took over the company in 2018 is working sincerely to make FENAKA a successful company.
FENAKA also stated that internal policies and guidelines through which corrupt activities could be carried out had been annulled by the current management and that the allegations are made on things done by the former management. The company also told to government authorities to verify information after proper administrative investigations so that proper information is disseminated.
ACC announced in September 2020 that 22 of the 27 corruption allegations on Managing Director of FENAKA, Ahmed Saeed will be investigated by the commission and the remaining five claims are being looked into prior to launching an official investigation.
Addressing the allegations MD Saeed said that he can guarantee that no corruption is and will take place in side FENAKA, and that those who are spiteful of this have filed a complaint with the ACC and that he is happy about it.
“I accept the complaint and call upon the authorities to investigate independently and as soon as possible”.
Managing Director of FENAKA, Ahmed Saeed
He added that it was a big joke that such accusations are made against the company every time a service provided by the company is not available and that as long as he is the MD of the company, he will not allow any such misconduct to take place within the company. He also stated that he will fully cooperate with ACC with regards to the complaints filed against him.
The complaint which was filed by an independent individual, whose name has not been revealed, mentioned major corruption claims and misuse of authority in providing employment for undue reasons, all of which Saeed has denied.
