Malé, Maldives – Workers have protested due to the work delays resulting from safety measures implemented by MPL recently.

The police dispersed the protest this morning with no arrests according to local news “the Press”. One protestor informed “the Press” that the protest was due to delays in project completion due to MPL.

While workers are allowed to enter the port at 09:00 it is not possible due to MPL’s inability to complete procedures as per the new guidelines and this leads to wasted hours for workers.

The safety measures were implemented at the MPL ports because of two accidental deaths this year. One safety measure now being implemented is not letting workers into the area when containers are being moved. The company is also conducting training sessions to ensure that the workers are familiar with safety measures.
