Male’, Maldives — The Tourism Ministry of Maldives reminds all tourist facilities that shark feeding is illegal in Maldives.
There has been considerable public concern, recently, due to shark attacks causing injuries to tourists during excursions. Some tourist establishments are allegedly providing shark feeding as an excursion activity.
The Tourism Ministry released a statement today to remind all tourist facilities, dive center and excursion providers in Maldives that under the Clause 1, Section 13, Chapter 3 of the Regulation on Recreational Diving shark feeding is illegal in Maldives.
The Ministry stated that it is important to ensure that all tourist activities are conducted in harmony with the environment and the biodiversity in accordance with the laws and regulations of the country.
The Ministry requested all concerned stakeholders to abide by the aforementioned regulations, especially those that concern the safety of the tourists and employees.
