Malé, Maldives – The Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer, today at the ceremony signing the contracts for water and sewerage systems in 34 islands, has stated that projects worth MVR 12 billion have been executed so far in the Maldives.
Minister Ameer has said that due to Covid-19, the income of the country has decreased, along with the increase in medical expenses and other Covid related expenses. Yet even with all the difficulties, last year has been very progressive in terms of the development in the country, he said.
The government has spent MVR 12 billion on 310 projects all over Maldives.

Minister Ameer further said that this a huge increment compared to the projects that took place over five years ago, and added that this is a feat that many previous governments failed to achieve. This shows just how much the government prioritizes the basic needs of the people of Maldives, he said, while affirming that development projects are executed regardless of the size or the population of the island during this administration.
With this, there are 25 islands of which the water and sewerage systems have not yet been awarded, out of which, bids for 14 islands was announced on Wednesday, while bids for the remaining islands would be announced sometime during the upcoming week.
