Malé, Maldives – The President’s Office has just confirmed that Information Commissioner Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has resigned from his position this morning.
The President received his resignation letter in writing as stipulated by the RTI Act.
RTI Act stipulates that the Information Commissioner may resign from the post by submitting a written resignation to the President, following which the position would become vacant.
Hussain Fiyaz Moosa was appointed to the post on October 31, 2019, by the President, according to Article 44 (a) of the Right to Information Act (Law no.: 1/2014).
The Information Commissioner’s Office was established on July 13, 2014, as per Article 43 (a) of the RTI Act. The information commissioner is mandated with the enforcement of the RTI Act – the law defines the right to access and obtain information in any state institution and encourages the widest circulation of information available at state institutions.
