Male’, Maldives – The permission for dine in services to remain open until 22:30 has been granted, due to the protests of restaurant businesses.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to give the green light for dine in services to be open until 22:30 in greater Male’, after restaurant owners and workers had announced protests.

To prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Male’, HPA had closed all services of café and restaurants after 20:30, except delivery and takeaway. This had caused a great amount of concern among the owners and workers of such businesses.

Restaurant Association of Maldives (RAM) has said that the night time is when the restaurants get most profit due to the surge of customers, and that due to the decisions of HPA, restaurants have been suffering a huge loss. RAM had also requested HPA, to change their guidelines in respect to the services given at night.

Last night, HPA had given out notice that the precautions would continue for one more week. However, HPA has reconsidered and stated that restaurant dine in services can stay open until 22:30.
