Police investigates sexual abuse case of 13yr old girl

Male’, Maldives— The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a sexual abuse case of a 13-year-old girl from the Nothern Maldives.

Police revealed that on March 23 they received a report on a 13-year-old girl was sexually abused by an individual in a position of authority over the victim. Sources inform that the individual suspected for sexual assaulting is a member of the victims family and that he has a has a history of drug abuse. According to sources, the victim has been previously abused several times as well.

The Gender Ministry and the Police confirmed that the case has been reported on March 23. The Ministry reports that the victim has now been transferred to a safer environment.

This case comes days after the Police revealed that a young 14-year-old girl was raped by an individual on March 3 in R. Maduvvari in the northern Maldives by a group of three men. While the girl could not identify the masked men, the suspect is her teacher.

Following this, the people of R. Maduvvari had protested in front of the police station last Wednesday night because no arrests had been made in relation to the crime.
