Addu City, Maldives – The Minister of Defence, Mariya Didi has inaugurated the Addu City, Hulhumeedhoo fire station.
The Hulhumeedhoo fire station is the fourth station in the southern area and thirty first in the country. The inaugural event was attended by Mayor of Addu City Abdulla Sodiq, Southern Area Commander Colonel Ibrahim Rasheed, Commandant of Fire and Rescue Services Brigadier General Shareef and government officials from Addu City.
Addu City council is a very active council. Of all councils they were the first to send [Addu Disaster Action ] plan to National Disaster Management Authority.

The Defence Minister thanked Addu City Council for the initiative in creating a Disaster Action Plan for the city and submitting to the National Disaster Management Authority, which the Minister presented to Addu Mayor Sodiq.
Previously, the travel time was 30 minutes and response time 1 hour and 15 minutes for Hulhumeedhoo fires. With the opening of the new fire station MNDF Fire and Rescue aims to shorten the response time to under 10 minutes.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih wants to open a fire station in all inhabited islands.

The Minister stated that there is an increase in fires in Ramadan and the fire station opening is at an opportune time. She also added that the role of a fire station is not only to put out fires but also to assist in community services and work together with citizens.
The Addu City Mayor Sodiq said that this is a moment to celebrate and thanked President Solih, as disasters are unpredictable and the fear of such an incident happening unattended has been alleviated for Hulhumeedhoo.
