Sinopharm second dose vaccination begins in Maldives

Male’, Maldives —Vaccination of Sinopharm second dose has started in two centers in the Maldives today.

Sinopharm Covid-19 Vaccine was approved for emergency use in the Maldives on 14 March 2021, and Health Protection Services (HPA) started administering the jab on 22 March. The Sinopharm Covid-19 Vaccine requires two doses administered one month apart.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) advises eligible individuals, those who have received the first dose of Sinapharm vaccine on March 22 and March 23 o bring their Dhifaafu Covid-19 vaccination card and national identity card or driver’s license to the vaccine center today to administer the second dose.

At present there are only two centers prepared to administer the Sinapharm vaccine. They are Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale’ and the People’s Majilis in Male’.

HPA has announced that from today on wards, the Tree Top Hospital will be open for the vaccination of Sinopharm second dose from morning 10:00 till 12:00 for those who aren’t fasting and from 20:30 till 23:00 for the remaining individuals. However, the People’s Majilis will only be open from 21:00 till 23:30 every night from today onwards for the second dose of Sinopharm to be administered.

Sinopharm is widely used in China and was developed by two companies from the nation. Sinovac and Sinopharm are the two vaccines predominantly used in China. The two vaccines have about 78 percent effectiveness against COVID-19.

Maldives is also administering the second dose of Covishield across the country at present. In addition to this, first dose of Sinopharm and Pfizer are also being administer in the country.

Maldives aims to administer Covid-19 vaccine to entire eligible resident population in the coming months.
