Malé, Maldives – Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has expressed concern over the delay in the investigation of the 14 year-old schoolgirl’s rape case in a northern island of the Maldives.
While many expressed their concerns and islanders protested over the fact that none of the rapists were arrested, Dunya tweeted that the alarming increase in the number of sexual harassment and violence against women, is due to the fact that the assailants never receive any punishment.
The increase in the number of sexual harassment and violence against women, is because assailants never get the punishment they deserve. The crimes are always dismissed. Where are the 4 suspected of raping the 14 year old girl in R. Maduvvari last month?

The victim was an 8th grader who was raped by her teacher, a policeman and a third person, according to informants. Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has previously informed that this case was being thoroughly investigated by the parliament, after it was brought to the attention of the parliament by MP of Maduvvari constituency Adam Shareef.
Cases of rape and violence are increasing in the Maldives at an alarming rate. Just recently, a case of two males kidnapping a woman from a Malé road and attempting to gang rape was reported, with the court remanding the suspects for five days.
