Fire breaks out at state children’s shelter “Kudakudhinge Hiya”

Villimalé, Maldives – A fire has broken out at state children’s shelter “Kudakudhinge Hiya” causing significant damage to property.

According to the information released by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the fire was reported at 10:04 today and MNDF Fire and Rescue Services responded to the report.

While major property damage is reported, MNDF states that no one was injured.

The Maldives Police and MNDF are investigating the cause of the fire.

Kudakudhinge Hiya is located in Villingili which is the fifth ward of Male’ the capital of Maldives. This residential care facility is managed by the Ministry of Gender. The institution is established to provide a safe, secure and enabling environment for vulnerable children who have no other means of primary care. There are over a hundred children residing in the facility.
