President sends new cabinet changes to Maldives Parliament for approval

Malé, Maldives – The President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent the new cabinet changes and appointees to the Maldives Parliament for approval.

Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla said that the names are now sent to the parliamentary committee for investigation. In addition to the appointments for cabinet ministers’ posts, mandate changes have also been sent for review.

While former Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, President’s office policy maker Aminath Shauna was appointed as Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on 5 May 2021 dissolved the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology and renamed the Ministry of Environment as the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.

With the dissolution of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology is mandated with undertaking the functions and responsibilities of the dissolved office. The staff would also be transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. The President made the decision under powers vested upon him in Article 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives.
