BREAKING: Two people pass away in Laamu atoll due to Covid-19 last night

Laamu Atoll, Maldives – HPA has confirmed that two people being treated at Laamu atoll Covid-19 management facility have passed away last night.

This records the 106th and 107th Covid-19 related death in the Maldives.

The 106th case was recorded last night at 01:54 a 87-year-old with the passing of a Maldivian man, while the 107th was a 69-year-old Maldivian woman who passed away at 03:01. The two Covid-19 patients belonging to two islands, admitted at the L. Gan Covid-19 facility on Monday night passed away within 2 days of admission.

Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 that has hit the country since the pandemic. Cases are escalating in the islands with limited infrastructure to handle treatment.

Currently there are 268 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has recorded a total of 1,465 Covid-19 cases yesterday.In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 1,465 cases, 1,213 were from the Malé area, while 244 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 08 case from operational resorts which brought up the total active cases in the country to 18,331.With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 47,421 out of which 29,086 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 18, 2021.
