Covid-19: 117th death recorded in Maldives!

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported that a 77 year old Maldivian male has passed away due to Covid-19 marking the 117th death due to the virus in the country.

According to HPA the individual who was admitted at Hulhumalé Covid Facility had passed away at 04:06 this morning. In addition to this a 72 year old and a 93 year old has passed away due to Covid-19 at the same facility last night. 

The 116th casualty was of a 93 year old Maldivian female who had passed away at 22:44 last night while being treated at Hulhumalé Covid Facility.

The previous casualty was a Maldivian male admitted at Hulhumalé Covid Facility and was declared as dead at 21:00 last night marking the 115th casualty from the island nation. 

Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 that has hit the country since the pandemic. Cases are escalating in the islands with limited infrastructure to handle treatment, and authorities rushing to increase capacity in both Malé and islands. 

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 2,194 cases recorded yesterday, 1,698 were from the Malé area, while 467 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 29 case from operational resorts which brought up the total active cases in the country to 20,276.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 50,802 out of which 30,403 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 20, 2021.
