Addu City, Maldives – Addu Equatorial Hospital has reported that additional seventeen people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Addu city today.
While Addu City recorded 17 cases of today, the total number of active cases has increased to 158. From the total positive cases, 486 direct contacts have been identified so far.
From the postive cases in the city, total 38 have recovered so far while 08 people have been hospitalized. It was revealed by AEH last night on a press conference by Addu Emergency Operations Center (AEOC) that one of the patients health was deteriorating and the person has been put on ventilator.
From the statistics revealed by AEH, there are total 86 cases from Hithadhoo, 06 cases from Maradhoo, 01 case from MaradhooFeydhoo, 02 cases from Feydhoo, 43 cases from Hulhudhoo, 09 cases from Meedhoo and 01 case from South Palm Resort which are currently active.
While the new Addu City Council has pledged to place additional restrictions in the city, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the curfew imposed in the city from 16:00 to 04:00 for a week starting from May 26, 2021.
During curfew times, going out in public and the operation of any vehicles on the road is prohibited.
In addition to this, travel within islands of Addu City have also been banned and also visiting from house to house have also been banned in Addu City until May 26, 2021.
Further restrictions imposed also stated that going out in groups of more than 3 is also not allowed under the new guidelines, and that when out, masks are always mandatory in the region.
In addition to these, dine-ins and operations of roadside food stalls, gyms and hair saloons has also been suspended, with only delivery allowed for restaurants and cafés. However, he revealed that shops will be open as per the Health Protection Agency (HPA) guidelines during this time and only take away services from restaurants to be provided before curfew times.
