Maldives records 121st Covid-19 death

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that a 48 year old local male admitted at Hulhumalé Medical Facility has passed away at 12:02 pm today due to Covid-19.

Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 that has hit the country since the pandemic. Cases are escalating in the islands with limited infrastructure to handle treatment, and authorities rushing to increase capacity in both Malé and islands.

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 1,603 cases recorded yesterday, 1,025 were from the Malé area, while 571 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 07 case from operational resorts which brought up the total active cases in the country to 21,071.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 52,405 out of which 31,197 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 21, 2021. Maldives has recorded a total of 121 Covid-19 deaths since the pandemic began.
