BREAKING: 1,559 additional cases recorded in Maldives!

Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has recorded a total of 1,559 Covid-19 cases today.

In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 1,559 cases, 1,135 were from the Malé area, while 401 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 20 case from operational resorts and 03 from liveaboards which brought up the total active cases in the country to 23,464.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 55,924 out of which 32,322 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 23, 2021. 

While the country is currently going through one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 290 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.

Since the country recorded its first case of Covid-19, Maldives has reported 129 deaths till date including six deaths which were recorded today.

According to HPA, a 80 year old Maldivian male had passed away at 17:40 this evening at DH17 marking the 126th casualty due to Covid-19. The 127th death was a 79 year old Maldivian female who had passed away at 18:40 at Hulhumalé Covid Facility. 

128th death was a 68 year old Maldivian male who passed away at 19:53 and the 129th death was of a 78 yea fold Maldivian male who passed away at 20:13. While both of them had passed away at Hulhumalé Covid Facility marking the sixth death of the day.
