Judge Arif not guilty of second allegation against him

Malé, Maldives – Judicial Service Commission (JSC) stated that Drug Court judge Arif has been found not guilty of the second disciplinary issue raised against him.

While the Judiciary Service Commission has not revealed the details of these charges, they stated that the first allegation against Judge Arif began in 2019 and was concluded in last December. He was found not guilty of this allegation. The second trial began in March 2020 and was concluded last year. He was found not guilty of both of these allegations.

Judge Arif was working at the Criminal Court when he was transferred to the Drug Court by JSC. He overlooked the cases of many famous personnel during his time at the Criminal Court. This includes the case of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, Former Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed as well as Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. The later hearings of Adeeb’s case was continued by other judges.

Judge Arif also served as the head of the Criminal Court when the current head AbdulBaaree Yousuf changed to the Juvenile Court in 2017 up until the appointment of the new head Ahmed Hailam.
