Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that additional two people have passed away due to Covid-19 today totaling the casualties to 177.
HPA had revealed that a 37 year old Sri Lankan male brought to IGMH Emergency Room had passed away at 04:24 last night and was declared as a Covid-19 death.
Additionally, a 77 year old Maldivian female brought to Villimalé Hospital was declared to have passed away due to Covid-19 at 16:30 this afternoon.
While this is the third death recorded today, a 77 year old Maldivian male had passed away from Dh. Atoll Bandidhoo at 11:17 this morning.
While the country is currently going through one of the worst waves that has hit the country in terms of the pandemic, currently there are 213 patients receiving hospitalized care for the virus throughout the country. With majority of the hospitalized patients being in the capital, experts continuously reiterate the importance of taking preventive steps against Covid-19, such as maintaining adequate physical distancing, wearing masks and practicing hand hygiene.
In the statistics released by HPA, it was detailed that out of the 648 cases recorded yesterday, 349 were from the Malé area, while 270 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 13 case from operational resorts and 16 cases from islands under development which brought the total active cases in the country to 22,375.
With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 66,516 out of which 43,959 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of June 3, 2021.
