Malé, Maldives – MP of Alifushi Constituency Mohamed Rasheed (Bigey) has stated that the Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi is the mother of MDP, and that she would not do anything which results in harm to the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
This comes after multiple calls for Minister Mariya’s resignation surfaced on social media following the terror attack on Former President Nasheed on the 6th may, which people claim was the result of Mariya being unfit for her position.
While speaking today on RajjeTV’s “Fashaairu” program, Bigey stated that all MDP members see Mariya as the mother of the party, adding that Mariya will not do anything that is detrimental to the party or especially anything that causes harm to Nasheed.
“For political reasons, fingers can be pointed at Mariya or any other Minister” stated MP Bigey.
He also noted that a Minister can only resign or be dismissed only after the allegations against them have clear evidence, but that currently, this is not the norm.
The Maldivian Police Service, along with foreign consultants, is currently investigating the cause behind the attack on the Former President. 5 individuals have been arrested so far, all of them indicating radicalisation. The f Parliamentary Committee on National Security is investigating into the security breach of the Speaker following the terror attack.
